The Finance Directorate supports the Department to achieve its strategic and operational objectives by partnering with each portfolio to provide best practice financial planning, analysis, management, accounting services, procurement and contract management. The Directorate provides strategic advice, guidance and reporting, to support informed decision making and the achievement of the corporate and Government objectives.

The role
We are seeking an exceptional senior leader to join our Executive team as Executive Director Finance, taking on the responsibility of Chief Finance Officer. This pivotal role leads the Financial Services Directorate and provides strategic direction, expert financial advice, and strong organisational leadership to support the Department in achieving its strategic and operational goals.
In this role, you will provide high‑level strategic and technical financial advice to the Director General and the Executive, while contributing as a key member of the Executive Leadership Group. You will lead and oversee the performance of the Financial Services Directorate, ensuring resources are managed in accordance with legislative, policy and governance requirements. A central focus of the position is to drive the review, development and implementation of financial management policies and procedures that enhance efficiency, strengthen compliance, and meet statutory, legislative, audit and reporting obligations. You will also guide the Department’s financial planning and management strategies, including the development of costing models and Business Intelligence reporting tools that support informed decision‑making and effective business planning.
We are looking for a strategic, forward‑thinking leader with extensive experience in delivering financial planning, budget management and accounting services in a medium to large, complex environment. Your strong background in strategic financial management, ability to lead a broad range of financial services, and exceptional communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills will be vital to your success in this role.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.
Eligibility
To be eligible for fixed term employment you must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia or have a valid visa to live and work in Australia for the duration of the fixed term employment at the time of application.
Should a qualification be required for this position, applicants must provide their certification and/or academic transcripts to verify relevance to the job requirements. Qualifications obtained outside of Australia must be provided with an assessment from the Overseas Qualifications Unit to ensure they meet Australian Standards (this is a free service).
To work for LGIRS, you must consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a clearance before you start. If deemed suitable, LGIRS will coordinate and pay for your NCCHC as part of your pre-employment checks.

- Demonstrated high level experience in managing and delivering strategic financial management and a broad range of Finance services preferably in a large Government agency and ensuring compliance with the Financial Management Act 2006 and other relevant legislation.
- Demonstrated extensive experience in managing and delivering financial planning, budget management and accounting services in a medium to large complex environment.
- Demonstrated superior stakeholder management communication skills with strong negotiation and consultation experience
Please note that this position requires a tertiary qualification in finance, commerce, business or equivalent and membership of CPA Australia, Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, the National Institute of Accountants or an appropriate recognised overseas accounting body.
An executive search may be undertaken to fill this vacancy.
