The Safety and Staff Wellbeing Branch is responsible for leading and coordinating the Department’s work health and safety (WHS) and psychosocial safety and wellbeing (PSW) functions across the organisation. The branch ensures compliance with relevant legislative frameworks while promoting safe, healthy and supportive working environments for all employees.

The branch provides strategic and operational advice, guidance and support to senior leaders, school leaders and line managers on WHS and staff wellbeing matters. It develops policies, initiatives and programs aimed at preventing workplace injury, managing risk, and supporting the mental health and wellbeing of employees across the Department.

The Role

This is an opportunity to make a real difference to how people experience work across the Department. In this senior role, you’ll work at both a strategic and practical level to strengthen workforce capability, support leaders and build a positive, resilient culture. We are looking for someone who is practical and grounded. You focus on practical solutions that people can use and sustain. You are comfortable working in a complex environment, making sound judgements, and adjusting your approach as needed. You will help shape Department-wide strategies, policies and frameworks, and make sure they are relevant and usable in practice. You will also lead the development of tools and programs that support leaders and teams to manage pressures, make good decisions and maintain safe, productive workplaces; setting clear goals and using what you learn along the way to keep improving.

You will provide trusted advice on complex workforce matters, support incident response, and oversee wellbeing initiatives and governance processes, working closely with a range of stakeholders and providing clear, balanced advice to senior leaders to support informed, confident decision-making.
