Your new role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and suitably
experienced person for the role of Director, Payroll.
This is a Permanent Full Time
appointment.
Position Profile: The
Director, Payroll holds a critical leadership position responsible
for overseeing the largest and most complex payroll operation in
the Western Australian public sector. The role provides
system-level direction for the delivery, improvement and long-term
sustainability of payroll services, supporting more than 70,000
employees across the WA health system. The size, complexity and
risk profile of this function necessitate a senior organisational
leadership capability that extends beyond operational management to
whole-of-system stewardship and compliance.
The role leads major reform and
transformation initiatives, including the transition and
integration activities associated with HRplus. This requires
high-level change leadership, the ability to influence diverse
internal and external stakeholders and responsibility for ensuring
business readiness and cultural adoption across multiple Health
Service Providers. The scope and importance of this reform
represent significant organisational impact and system-wide
consequences.
The Director exercises senior oversight of
payroll governance, assurance mechanisms, legislative compliance,
risk management and control environments. The volume and complexity
of health sector industrial instruments create heightened
compliance and risk exposure, requiring expert judgement and a
strategic, forward-looking approach to managing financial,
operational and reputational risks for the system.
The position is accountable for fostering
strong, influential partnerships across the health system,
including with unions, regulatory bodies, system partners and
executive leadership groups. This level of system collaboration and
stakeholder influence reflects an organisational role operating at
an executive tier with broad authority and decision-making
accountability.
The Director also provides leadership in
service modernisation by promoting innovation, new operating models
and emerging digital technologies, ensuring the service remains
contemporary, efficient and capable of meeting future demands. This
includes workforce capability uplift and the development of a
positive, high-performing and customer-focused culture for a
Payroll team made up of more than 170 employees.
Please view the Job Description
Form (JDF) attached which provides a full statement of duties for
the position.
