There are several stages of the trainee transit officer recruitment process, and you must be available to attend each stage in person as detailed below:
- Aptitude assessments (online)
- Physical testing (must attend in person)
- Interview Process
- Psychometric assessments and pre-employment medical
- Induction and training (commencing August 2026)
Please Note: As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a series of assessments. These assessments are designed to ensure candidates meet the necessary competencies for the role. Further details will be provided to those who advance in the recruitment process.
Trainee transit officer aptitude assessment results are valid for 24 months. If unsuccessful, candidates are eligible to reapply after this period.
This is a pool recruitment process where suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made for this or similar positions. Initially this selection process will be used as vacancies arise, but it may also be used to appoint to similar positions in the agency on a permanent basis.
To be eligible to work at the PTA you must be either an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.

Important information

In addition, applicants who pass the aptitude‑testing phase must complete an integrity clearance before being invited to interview. Adverse outcomes from integrity reviews and NPCs will not necessarily disqualify an applicant from the selection process. All PTA positions are subject to ongoing integrity screening. Suitable applicants will also be required to undertake a Drug and Alcohol Screen prior to commencement.
