About the Opportunity
The State Solicitor’s Office is seeking motivated and capable Senior Law Clerks (Paralegals) to join our legal teams. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to high‑quality legal services that support the State of Western Australia.
There are seven (7) permanent vacancies that require immediate filling.
You will work on unique and meaningful legal matters that directly impact the State, supporting Legal Officers across a range of practice areas. You will manage a portfolio of moderately complex files and provide guidance to junior law clerks within a collaborative and professional environment.
About the Role
As a Senior Law Clerk, you will bring sound judgment, strong organisational skills, and a high level of initiative to a role that offers both autonomy and support. Working under the general direction of a supervisor, you will independently manage your workload while applying your proficiency across a range of office and case‑management applications to support the effective delivery of legal services.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful legal work across several practice areas, with immediate permanent vacancies available in:
- Civil Litigation
- Public and General Litigation
- Institutional Abuse in Care
- State Counsel (Criminal Law & Mental Impairment; High Risk Sex Offender Team)
- Native Title and State Lands
In this role, your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing a portfolio of legal files of moderate complexity
- Preparing court documents and drafting accurate, well‑considered correspondence
- Conducting legal research and interpreting and applying legislation
- Responding to procedural enquiries verbally and in writing
- Interpreting and following instructions from clients and supervisors
- Coordinating invoice and account payments

Other important information
This pool will be open for a period of 12 months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. We use our recruitment pools to build a bank of talent for future opportunities. Applicants found suitable are placed in a pool and may be offered permanent and fixed-term positions. Applicants appointed for a fixed term may be offered a permanent position in the future and may be eligible for conversion to permanency.
The recommended applicant will be required to complete a pre-employment screening process prior to appointment. This includes undergoing employment screening, which includes a National Criminal History Check and other checks that may be relevant to the position requirements.
