The role

As the Senior Ministerial Liaison Officer, you will be part of a fast‑paced and dedicated team at the heart of the department’s Ministerial operations. You will coordinate and monitor the preparation of Ministerial correspondence, Parliamentary Questions, briefing notes and Cabinet submissions within prescribed timeframes, ensuring every piece of work meets a high standard and contributes to effective government decision‑making. Drawing on your experience in Ministerial processes and complex stakeholder environments, you will play a vital role in maintaining strong communication channels, supporting informed advice, and driving high‑quality service delivery across all Ministerial business.

Your well‑developed communication skills and experience in parliamentary, ministerial or public‑sector operations will be key to your success in this role.

You will bring to the team your expertise in developing and implementing communication strategies, quality control measures, and training in Ministerial protocols. Your ability to provide timely advice, undertake high‑level research, manage competing priorities, and build productive relationships while representing the Department on committees and working groups will ensure you thrive in this dynamic and influential position.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.

Eligibility

To be eligible for fixed term employment you must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia or have a valid visa to live and work in Australia for the duration of the fixed term employment at the time of application.

To work for LGIRS, you must consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a clearance before you start. If deemed suitable, LGIRS will coordinate and pay for your NCCHC as part of your pre-employment checks.
