Drive facilities management, infrastructure planning, redevelopment and capital works programs that enable world-class paediatric care for children and families in WA.

CRVCID. 721814

This is a Permanent Full Time Position.

Applicants that are determined to be suitable for the role, but not preferred, are eligible for placement in similar roles at other Health Service Providers within WA Health.

About the Role

The Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) is seeking an experienced people leader to join our team as Director Infrastructure & Facilities Management. This role requires strong financial, strategic and operational acumen and offers a unique opportunity to shape and sustain environments that directly impact patient care and outcomes across Western Australia’s only tertiary paediatric health service, including hospital and community-based sites.

Reporting to the Executive Director, and working closely with executives, clinicians and external partners, you will be accountable for delivering high-quality, safe and compliant infrastructure and facilities, aligned with WA Health priorities, government frameworks, and clinical and operational requirements. You will provide expert advice on asset management and infrastructure investment, coordinate program workstreams, and lead high-impact redevelopment and infrastructure initiatives that enable clinical services to deliver exceptional care to children, young people, and their families.

You will lead and develop a cohesive and adaptable team, with oversight of governance across infrastructure and facilities management services, including major capital works, minor works, asset management, maintenance programs, land and property services, and office accommodation planning.

Success in this role will depend on your ability to build strong relationships, enable change through understanding stakeholder needs, lead teams through competing priorities, and foster effective multidisciplinary collaboration.

Current infrastructure projects include:

  • Acute Mental Health Ward redesign for Ward 5A
  • Cladding Remediation
  • Minor Building Works Projects
  • WA’s Children’s Hospice – Sandcastles Boodja Mia

As many projects are delivered within live clinical environments, success for our teams is measured not only by work completion, but also in ensuring works are delivered safely and efficiently, and that operational team’s transition seamlessly into new or upgraded facilities with minimal disruption to patient care.

Key role responsibilities include

  • Delivering CAHS’ annual Strategic Asset Plan, overseeing budget management, funding submissions and resource allocation
  • Leading asset lifecycle planning and infrastructure performance optimisation
  • Manage maintenance programs, minor works and service contracts
  • Oversee land, property and leasing arrangements
  • Supporting workforce capability and professional development and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and high performance
  • Represent CAHS in high-level forums and with external agencies

If you have led large-scale programs and driven organisational outcomes in complex, highly regulated environments, while maintaining strong governance and delivery discipline, we encourage you to apply.

Experience within the health sector or government environment will be highly regarded.

How to Apply

Applicants are requested to apply online (www.jobs.health.wa.gov.au). Please note, applicants must have a current, valid email address in order to apply online. This email address will be used for communication with applicants.

Your ability to meet the work-related requirements will be assessed throughout the recruitment process.

For your written application please provide the following:

  • A statement addressing selection criteria as per the Job Description Form in no more than 3 pages. (View the applicant information package and Job Description Form (JDF) attached for more information, including the selection criteria).

(Please note that examples of how you have applied your skills, knowledge and experience help to demonstrate that you have met the selection criteria).

  • A current resume which summarises your experience, qualifications and how you can meet the position requirements.
  • Please provide the name, email, and contact details of two referees who can be contacted to provide a reference. Referees should include at least one individual who has been or is your direct Line Manager/Supervisor. (We will contact you to seek your confirmation prior to contacting your listed referees).

Within the application system you will be presented with the following question. Please review the Essential and Desirable Selection Criteria outlined in the attached Job Description Form carefully when preparing your response.  The question allows you to showcase your relevant skills and experiences in detail, with a generous word limit of 500 words for your response.

  1. Please provide a specific example of how you have supported executive decision-making in relation to operational and/or capital expenditure within asset lifecycle planning or infrastructure performance optimisation.

    In your response, outline:
  • How you supported prioritisation, influenced stakeholders and achieved agreement
  • The governance and decision gates applied throughout the process
  • How you identified and incorporated stakeholder needs into planning and recommendations

These documents should be complete and ready to attach prior to applying online. Please ensure you allow sufficient time to complete the online application process as you will be required to answer various questions and attach your documentation.

Selection Criteria: Please see the attached Job Description Form.

For Further Job Related Information: We encourage you to contact Michael Hutchings, Executive Director Contracting,  Infrastructure, Digital Health & Patient Support Services at 08 6456 5253 or michael.hutchings@health.wa.gov.au  with any specific questions related to this role.

Eligibility: To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments).

Other Conditions: WA Health engages staff in positions of trust and responsibility. WA Health policies require applicants to undertake a criminal records screening and integrity checking as part of the appointment process. As well as undertaking a criminal record screening and integrity checking, you may also be required to undertake a working with children check (if required for the role) and a pre-employment health assessment. We may ask referees to comment on your integrity and past demonstration of ethical behaviour. Please note that adverse information does not necessarily disqualify an applicant but will be considered as part of the appointment process.

WA Health is committed to eliminating all forms of discrimination in the provision of our service. We embrace diversity and strongly encourage applications from people from culturally diverse backgrounds and people with disabilities.

In addition, we are committed to growing our Aboriginal workforce as part of WA Health Aboriginal Workforce Policy. As a measure to achieve equality, Section 51 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 applies to this position and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are encouraged to apply.

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
