What we are looking for
We are seeking an experienced Senior Allied Health Assistant
(AHA) who is energetic, enthusiastic, team-oriented, organised and
enjoys working in a hospital and community setting.
This is a senior, autonomous AHA role suited to Allied Health
Assistants who are confident working with minimal day‑to‑day
supervision, contributing to service development, and providing
leadership within the AHA scope of practice.
About this role
This position is in our Hospital In The Home (HITH) Service
which enables people to receive acute inpatient care in the comfort
of their own home. HITH patients receive care from medical, nursing
and allied health staff and usually have an acute medical illness
or a decline in their usual level of independence and functioning.
The Senior Allied Health Assistant (AHA) will visit patients
independently in the community and will be an important part of the
team providing a brief period of rehabilitation and support to help
the patient regain independence and optimise their safety at home.
You will have the opportunity to embody the NMHS Values and make a
real difference by providing safe quality care through expertise
and teamwork.
The Senior (AHA) role involves providing individual treatments
directed by Allied Health Professionals including but not limited
to Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Speech
Pathologists. This may include activities such as helping a patient
practise dressing, showing them how to use new equipment like a
walking aid and teaching them ways to prevent falls. Patients may
have a variety of diagnoses and be under the medical care of
clinical teams including oncology, haematology, neurology, general
medical and acute care of the elderly team.
You will also support the therapists in developing resources,
driving new innovations, initiating new programmes and measuring if
ideas implemented have been effective. You will be responsible
for managing your caseload as well as the non-clinical aspects of
the role.
This is a fantastic opportunity for career Allied Health
Assistants with significant hospital experience to step into an
advanced role. You will be working with experienced therapists who
value the role of an AHA and you will have access to regular
education and supervision.
This role reports to the Occupational Therapy Coordinator.

Innovation, Teamwork and Integrity. During the selection
process you will be assessed on your ability to fulfil the
responsibilities of this position while upholding our values.
