Part Time appointment (0.5 FTE) for a period of 5 years with a
possibility of extension/s.
We are seeking an
exceptional Medical Director of Infection
Control to spearhead our infection prevention
strategy across a dynamic, high-acuity healthcare
environment.
This is not just a role—it’s
a mission-critical appointment at the intersection of clinical
governance, epidemiology, and executive leadership. You will shape
policy, drive innovation, and lead multidisciplinary teams to
ensure our institution remains a national benchmark for infection
control excellence.
We are seeking an
experienced and strategic leader to join our team. The successful
applicant shall provide strategic leadership, expertise, and
education in all aspects of Infection Prevention & Management
within FSFHG and SMHS. Initiates, designs, implements, and monitors
strategies to reduce the incidence of hospital-acquitted infections
in our patients. Plays a leading role in preparing for and managing
outbreaks. Works with other staff to ensure our hospitals meet the
requirements of the National Safety and Quality Health Services
Standards.
As part of an
interdisciplinary team, leads the provision of specialist medical
services to patients. Actively addresses clinical risks and
delays in patient care for individual patients. Educates and
supervises junior medical staff and other health
workers.

Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH)
is a 783-bed tertiary hospital offering a range of health services
including the State Rehabilitation Service, a comprehensive cancer
centre, purpose-built mental health unit, maternity, paediatric and
neonatal services, and the State Adult Burns Service. FSH also
delivers specialised services such as heart and lung
transplantations and hyperbaric medicine.
SMHS delivers quality, safe
and effective hospital and health services within a catchment area
stretching more than 3300 square kilometres across the southern
half of Perth.

Eligibility
To be eligible for
appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed
term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident,
or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for
permanent appointments).
WA Health engages staff in
positions of trust and responsibility. WA Health policies require
applicants to undertake criminal records screening and integrity
checking as part of the appointment process. Referees may also be
asked to comment on an applicant’s integrity and past demonstration
of ethical behaviour.
Whilst this
selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy,
it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout
the health service. In addition to this, should the successful
applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next
most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process.
Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12)
months from when the authorised delegate endorses the
recruitment decision.
