THE ROLE

The Principal Media Advisor plays a pivotal role in providing strategic advice on media and public relations to the Road Safety Commissioner and the Office of Minister for Road Safety. This role shapes messaging and evaluates risks in communicating clear, accurate, and effective road safety information across traditional and digital media channels. 

The successful applicant will lead a small team in responding to media enquiries and delivering proactive media opportunities through positive relationships with media and community stakeholders to directly influence the positive reputation and perceptions of the Road Safety Commission.

  • Employer contribution of 12% superannuation in addition to your salary. 
  • 20 days of annual leave (pro rata for part time).
  • Annual leave loading payment in December of each year.
  • 13 weeks (pro rata) paid long service leave for every seven years of consecutive service.
  • 15 days personal leave each year (pro rata for part time).
  • 3 days public service holiday.
  • 14 weeks paid parental leave after 12 months of continuous service.

Applicants should nominate at least one immediate supervisor/manager unless exceptional circumstances exist.
  2. A statement addressing your skills against the following work related requirements, providing examples to support your claims, in no more than 2 pages:

A. Experience in media and public relations - Understanding media needs and methods and responding effectively within a dynamic organisation. Developing and implementing positive and innovative media and stakeholder relations strategies and presenting this in a form suitable for that medium.
B. Communication and stakeholder engagement skills - Applying a strategic approach to communication activities to enhance relations between the Commission, the public, media and other key stakeholders to bring awareness and influence change.

3. The attached Integrity Consent Form (Not required for current WA Police Force employees)

Candidates must also read the attached contextual information (Supplementary Information – Principal Media Advisor) regarding conditions of employment including security clearance, integrity checking requirements and the WA Police Force Drug and Alcohol policy.
