What is the Role?

The ERA is seeking a sharp, strategic economist to keep the regulation of Western Australia’s rail infrastructure on track. You will join us on a full time permanent basis in the Regulation Division. In this role, you will apply regulatory expertise to regulatory challenges in rail.  The role leads high‑level stakeholder engagement, prepares major regulatory documents, and contributes to policy discussions on rail and competition matters.

You will lead rail projects and provide evidence-based recommendations to decision makers, and mentor engaged staff. You will also work closely with industry and government, influence strategic discussions, and represent the ERA in various forums.

To be successful in this position, you will bring demonstrated experience in the economic regulation of infrastructure assets, particularly third-party access frameworks, supported by a understanding of legislative frameworks. Your ability to influence and provide advice to executive and decision makers, through clear written and verbal communication is essential.  This includes the preparation of robust documents that can withstand scrutiny. Additionally, you will have proven capability in leading projects and teams, including the management of multiple projects and the procurement and management of external advisors.
