Eligibility to
Apply: To be eligible for appointment, applicants
must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be
an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live
and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent
appointments).
Other
Conditions: WA Health engages staff in positions of
trust and responsibility. WA Health policies require applicants to
undertake criminal records screening and integrity checking as part
of the appointment process. Referees may also be asked to comment
on an applicant’s integrity and past demonstration of ethical
behaviour.
Whilst this
selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy,
it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout
the health service. In addition to this, should the successful
applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next
most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process.
Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12)
months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment
decision.
What is
our Managing Scientist Food role?
This key position in the
Environmental Health Directorate leads and manages the Food Unit,
supporting public health and safety by protecting the community
from food related harm. The role encompasses a broad portfolio of
strategic and operational functions including national and state
food policy, regulatory compliance and enforcement under the Food
Act 2008, science-based surveillance and risk assessments,
foodborne illness investigations, food recalls, incident
response, stakeholder engagement and
communication.
The position represents the
State’s interests in current and emerging food safety risks at both
state and national level, influences policy, thinking, and programs
to support a healthier community and contributes to the
Directorate’s strategic and business planning. The successful
applicant will demonstrate proven leadership aligned with the
Department’s values of Outcome focused, Purposeful, Caring,
Collaborative and Open, and a strong commitment to continuous
improvement, risk management and organisational
effectiveness.
