Eligibility to Apply: To be eligible for appointment,
applicants must have a valid working visa.
Other
Conditions: WA Health engages staff in
positions of trust and responsibility. WA Health policies require
applicants to undertake a criminal records screening and integrity
checking as part of the appointment process. As well as undertaking
a criminal record screening and integrity checking, you may also be
required to undertake a working with children check (if required
for the role) and a pre-employment health assessment. We may ask
referees to comment on your integrity and past demonstration of
ethical behaviour. Please note that adverse information does not
necessarily disqualify an applicant but will be considered as part
of the appointment process.
Whilst this
selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy,
it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout
the health service. In addition to this, should the successful
applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next
most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process.
Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12)
months from when the authorised delegate endorses the
recruitment decision.
Position
Profile:
The Chief
Medical Officer (CMO) is a senior executive leadership role that
provides high‑level strategic, professional and clinical advice to
the Minister for Health and the Director General on all matters
relating to the medical workforce, medical practice, and the
quality and safety of clinical care across the State. The position
is central to ensuring that the regulation, performance and
integrity of the medical profession align with the needs and
priorities of the WA health system.
As the
State’s foremost clinical leader, the CMO guides the strategic
direction of medical practice across Western Australia, working in
close partnership with health service providers, the private
sector, universities, training colleges, and professional bodies.
Through this system‑wide leadership, the role supports a safe,
sustainable and future‑focused medical workforce capable of meeting
the evolving health needs of Western Australians.
The CMO represents WA Health
nationally and internationally, contributing to major health
workforce, clinical governance and policy reform agendas. The role
provides a unique opportunity for an experienced medical leader to
influence the future of healthcare, foster clinical excellence, and
strengthen the wellbeing of the community through high‑quality,
evidence‑informed system leadership.ationally and internationally
to support the WA Health agenda with respect to medical workforce
and professional matters.
