About Our
Team:
The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services
(CAMHS) in Western Australia offer support, advice and
treatment to children and adolescents from birth to 18 years who
are experiencing mental health challenges. CAHS
helps children grow and thrive and we offer these same
opportunities to the nurses who join our team. Our team-oriented
approach allows for extensive clinical upskilling, and leadership
development opportunities for nurses of all levels.
The Eating Disorder Service is a statewide paediatric specialist
service that delivers clinical care and conducts research to
advance knowledge in eating disorders. The role leads the
development and delivery of the eating disorders research program
at CAHS, under the guidance of a senior clinical psychologist. The
service is undergoing reform and seeks motivated staff to join a
dynamic, multidisciplinary team supporting children and young
people across Western Australia. Staff gain experience across
outpatient, day program, inpatient and group settings, with strong
opportunities for training, supervision and professional
development in a supportive environment.
About the
Role:
We are seeking a Senior Psychologist – Research to join the
multi-disciplinary Eating Disorders Service team at the Child and
Adolescent Mental Health Service based at Perth Children’s
Hospital.
The CAMHS Eating Disorders Service (EDS) holds the HOPE (Helping
to Outline Paediatric Eating Disorders) Project database, which
contains standardized clinical and psychometric data. First
implemented in 1996, the registry provides invaluable opportunity
to support meaningful research on paediatric eating disorders.
Additionally, the EDS engages in research collaborations at state,
national and international levels to contribute to the innovation
in best practice.
In this role, you will draw on advanced skills in applied
research, to initiate, develop, conduct, evaluate, and disseminate
clinical research within the Eating Disorders Service. Your primary
responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring the data collection and evaluations conducted
within the EDS, including management of the HOPE database.
- Design and implementation of research projects in alignment
with strategic priorities of the service.
- Conducting conventional, complex and novel qualitative and
quantitative procedures.
- Providing high level consultation and support to clinical
team members and senior management on a range of research
processes including project design, evaluation and statistical
analysis, research governance and ethics.
- Ensuring dissemination of research outcomes through
conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
This is a Fixed Term Part Time or Permanent Part Time
opportunity at up to 0.8 FTE, with the possibility of extension(s)
and/or permanency.
What You’ll
Bring:
A Doctoral or master’s degree in psychology,
with demonstrated experience in clinically applied research,
including complex multivariate data analysis, and dissemination of
research through peer‑reviewed publications and scientific
presentations.
Experience working in psychological, psychiatric, or
medical clinical settings, with highly developed
interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate
with multidisciplinary clinical teams, universities, government
agencies, statutory bodies, and external research partners.
Advanced analytical, computing, and reporting
skills, including high‑level proficiency in statistical
and data management software (e.g. SPSS, Excel, Access), with
proven ability in analytical thinking, report writing, and
professional presentations.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and
collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams of varying
expertise, with strong organisational skills and the capacity to
manage competing priorities.
Research leadership experience, including
management of research resources and supervision and training of
researchers, students, and support staff.
Current knowledge of legislative and ethical
obligations, including Equal Opportunity, Disability

inclusive practices in research and service
delivery.
