24-month appointment pool.

We are establishing an appointment pool for vacancies that arise up to 24 months from the first appointment.

Appointments may be made on a full-time, part-time, casual, permanent or fixed-term basis with possible further term and and/or permanency.

Suitable candidates will be placed in the appointment pool from which opportunities may be offered as vacancies arise. Candidates may also be considered for similar positions within South Metropolitan TAFE as they arise during the life of the pool. If the appointment pool is exhausted prior to the pool expiry date, we reserve the right to supplement the pool through further advertising.

About the role
The lecturer's primary role is to teach, facilitate learning, assess and mentor students in accordance with relevant curriculum and/or training package requirements. Lecturers also undertake Professional Activities (PA) and Activities Related to Delivery (ARD). 

In order to maintain quality educational services, lecturers are required to keep abreast of technological and other developments in their field through professional development to provide up-to-date information and advice to the College and industry, where appropriate. 

To be successful in this role you will have suitable experience and currency in one or more of the following areas within the Community Services sector: 

  • Teaching first aid
  • Mental health recovery-oriented practice
  • Counselling
  • Small business financial counselling
  • Homelessness and social housing
  • Family and domestic violence
  • Trauma informed care
  • Alcohol and other drugs
  • Working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
  • Case management
  • Aged care
  • Disability
  • NDIS and/or aged funding
  • Personal care skills

Additional desirable skills and experience: 

  • RPL assessing
  • Flexible Delivery training and assessing
  • Non-traditional delivery (e.g., Traineeships, off-campus) training and assessing

To be successful in this role you will have a formal qualification related to the Community Services industry and/or area of expertise above. 

The successful applicant will also have at least 5 years of vocational or lecturing experience relevant to this position with an ability to facilitate and encourage learning. 

There is a minimum qualification required to deliver accredited vocational education and training (VET) as defined by the Registration Standards 2025 (2025 Standards), or its successors. The current minimum qualification required is the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122, TAE40116, or TAE40110), or a secondary teaching qualification with an Assessor Skill Set (TAESS00011, TAESS00019, or TAESS00024).

Applicants who do not yet hold the minimum required VET credentials are still eligible to apply, however South Metropolitan TAFE will require the successful candidate to be enrolled, and have commenced training in, an approved training and assessment credential and record satisfactory progress to enable the credential to be completed within two years from commencement.
