The role
As an Environmental Officer, you will play a key role in the assessment of detailed and/or complex development proposals and mine closure plans for strategic resource projects of State significance. In this role, you will contribute to the achievement of the Department’s environmental objectives for mining operations, while supporting the timely assessment of major resource projects.
The position is also responsible for monitoring industry performance and regulatory compliance, including conducting inspections and audits. You will provide specialist and technical advice to internal and external stakeholders on State significant projects, including those operating under State Agreements.
Success in this role will be underpinned by your demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in environmental management, particularly in assessing environmental aspects and risks associated with mining and/or petroleum development activities.
You will also bring proven experience in preparing high-quality reports relating to environmental assessments, investigations and/or analytical research.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a permanent appointment, applicants must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia at the time of application. Applicants with a valid visa to work and live in Australia for a specific duration may be assessed and considered suitable for similar fixed term vacancies that arise.
Should a qualification be required for this position, applicants must provide their certification and/or academic transcripts to verify relevance to the job requirements. Qualifications obtained outside of Australia must be provided with an assessment from the Overseas Qualifications Unit to ensure they meet Australian Standards (this is a free service).
To work for DMPE, you must consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a clearance before you start. If deemed suitable, DMPE will coordinate and pay for your NCCHC as part of your pre-employment checks.

- Bachelor of Science, Environmental Science or Natural Resource Management Degree or an approved equivalent scientific degree appropriate for the role/responsibilities described in this Job Description Form.
