About Us

Westport is a transformational program that offers a rare opportunity for progressive and impactful large-scale infrastructure planning. Part of the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure, the Westport Office is responsible for delivering a diverse program of works that will:

  • Scale up WA’s trade capabilities for the next century.
  • Enable larger, more efficient vessels that Fremantle Port cannot accommodate.
  • Increase the share of rail freight, reducing road congestion and emissions.
  • Include an innovative port design informed by Cockburn Sound marine environment science.
  • Enable the transformation of Fremantle Port into vibrant mixed-use communities.
  • Generate thousands of jobs during construction and operations.
  • Encourage growth within the Kwinana Industrial Area and Western Trade Coast.

Westport will be delivered by over eight major infrastructure projects, and a raft of non-infrastructure commercial, environmental, planning, reform and strategy implementation programs, all integrating to realise meaningful benefits for Australia and to deliver a legacy of innovation and improvement in infrastructure delivery in WA.

The Opportunity:

Westport are seeking a highly capable Senior Marine & Ports Engineer to help shape the future of Western Australia’s container trade and maritime infrastructure. This role provides critical technical expertise and engineering assurance as the Westport Program proceeds into definition and delivery phases - a transformational stage where detailed design, procurement and construction begin to take shape

As part of the Marine and Ports Infrastructure team, you’ll contribute to one of the State’s most significant infrastructure initiatives of the century, ensuring the engineering solutions developed are safe, efficient and world‑class. Your work will support the successful delivery of complex maritime projects, from scoping and design through to contract review and close‑out - all within a forward‑looking, multi‑disciplinary environment committed to long‑term sustainability and trade growth.

This is a rare career opportunity to apply your marine and coastal engineering expertise to a project that will transform WA’s freight network for generations. You’ll collaborate with government agencies, industry partners and technical specialists, contributing engineering leadership to a once‑in‑a‑lifetime program that will define the next century of Western Australia’s prosperity

Your impact will be through:

  • Delivering technical engineering support and assurance across maritime, coastal and structural design activities, ensuring adherence to industry standards, safety systems and project objectives.
  • Contributing to the planning, development, design, delivery and close‑out of marine and ports projects, ensuring progress aligns with scope, schedule, budget and quality requirements.
  • Technical oversight of consultancy and engineering contracts, including preparing technical specifications, evaluating tenders, technical assurance of deliverables and acting as Westport’s Representative.
  • Coordinating and influencing stakeholders across government, industry, contractors and consultants to achieve smooth collaboration and strong project outcomes.
  • Leading and supporting multidisciplinary project teams, contributing to resourcing, performance oversight and fostering a collaborative, value‑driven project environment.
  • Driving continuous improvement in engineering and project management processes, documentation and systems across the Westport Program.

 What sets you apart:

  • Degree in civil, structural or coastal engineering, with eligibility for Engineers Australia membership.
  • Extensive experience in marine structural design (e.g., wharves, jetties)
  • Experience in maritime/coastal engineering (e.g., mooring analysis, dredging, breakwaters).
  • Strong capability delivering designs to Australian Standards, PIANC and maritime guidelines.
  • Highly developed engineering design management skills across the full project lifecycle.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to build relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage team members within multi‑disciplinary project environments.
  • Experience in project management of civil and/or maritime infrastructure projects (Desirable).
  • Experience in procurement and construction management of engineering works contracts (Desirable).

There is currently one (1) full time, fixed term appointment contract up to 30 June 2028 with the possibility of extensions and/or permanency available for immediate start.
