An
opportunity exists for a talented and enthusiastic Clinical
Nurse Specialist to join the Mental Health and Drug Service
team in Karratha in the Pilbara.
To be
successful, you will have...
- Sound
knowledge and understanding of psychiatric disorders and their
treatment; and of the principles of mental health promotion and
community-based health care.
- Extensive experience in
a community based mental health service including crisis
intervention, assertive case management and community-based
treatment; and eligibility for nomination as an Authorised
Mental Health Practitioner (at least 3 years post-graduate
experience in mental health).
- Demonstrated ability to
work alone and with other health professionals within a
multidisciplinary team.
- Well-developed written
and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Current
C Class drivers licence and ability and willingness to travel
within the Pilbara including overnight stays away from
home.

Provide
community mental health services to clients of the Pilbara
Mental Health and Drug Service in the Pilbara based on best
practice, including providing a service which is culturally
secure and takes into account the emotional, social and
spiritual well-being of our Aboriginal clients.

The Pilbara
is WA’s second most northern region, defined by the Indian
Ocean to the west and the Northern Territory border to the
east. The Kimberley Region lies to its north across the Great
Sandy Desert and the Pilbara’s southern reaches border the
Midwest and Goldfields regions. The region covers a total area
of 507,896sq km (including offshore islands). Most of the
inhabitants are in the western third, whereas the eastern third
is largely desert with few inhabitants. Today the Pilbara
economy is crucial to the State, providing 2 of the State’s
largest export revenue earners – iron ore and liquefied natural
gas.
