There are several stages of the Trainee Transit Officer recruitment process, and you must be available to attend each stage in person as detailed below:
- Aptitude Assessments (online)
- Physical Testing (must attend in person)
- Panel Interview
- Psychometric Assessments and Pre-Employment Medical
- Induction & Training: Commences May 2026
Please Note: As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a series of assessments. These assessments are designed to ensure candidates meet the necessary competencies for the role. Further details will be provided to those who advance in the recruitment process.
Trainee Transit Officer aptitude assessment results are valid for 24 months. If unsuccessful, candidates are eligible to reapply after this period.
This is a pool recruitment process where suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which permanent appointments may be made within the next 12 months.
To be eligible to work at the PTA you must be either an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.

- A written application responding to the following in no more than 1 page.
We’re seeking individuals who can maintain a safe environment for all passengers and staff, particularly when faced with unpredictable and potentially dangerous situations.
In your cover letter, please describe an experience where you personally successfully de-escalated a tense or volatile situation. How did you assess the risks, and what strategies did you use to maintain safety for everyone involved?

Please note you will be required to complete the PTA Integrity and Qualification Consent Form, and an Australian National Police Clearance should you become the recommended applicant through the recruitment process. In addition, applicants who pass the aptitude‑testing phase must complete an integrity clearance before being invited to interview. Adverse outcomes from integrity reviews and NPCs will not necessarily disqualify an applicant from the selection process. All PTA positions are subject to ongoing integrity screening. Suitable applicants will also be required to undertake a Drug and Alcohol Screen prior to commencement.
