Why Work with Us?

People and businesses rely on our roads every day — to get to work, return home, and travel throughout Western Australia.

At Main Roads we are committed to delivering a world-class road network and creating positive, lasting impacts for WA communities. We play a critical role in overseeing the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operations of major roads and highways across the State.

We work closely with our portfolio partners, Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure, and Public Transport Authority as well as local governments to support the needs of all road users across the state by providing an integrated world-class road transport network.

As we continue to grow and improve, we are seeking a capable and motivated Asset Management Officer – Structures/ Bridge Asset Officer, to support the effective planning, inspection and management of bridges and structural assets across the metropolitan region.

About the Role

You will play a key role in the planning, monitoring and improvement of bridge and structural assets, supporting inspections, investigations and maintenance activities while ensuring compliance with Main Roads’ standards and safety requirements. Some of the exciting deliverables for this role will include the management of the Matagarup Bridge and Zip Line.

The role supports the delivery of the Annual Structures Delivery Plan, including structural maintenance, improvements, replacements and preventative maintenance. You will contribute to asset data management, risk assessments, forward works planning and funding submissions, working closely with internal teams, consultants and contractors across a diverse bridge and structures portfolio.

This position is generally office-based, with regular fieldwork to undertake inspections, collect asset and condition data and support investigations. Nightshift and emergency response are extremely rare but may occur for training purposes or when temporarily acting in a higher-duty role.

You will be reporting to a highly experienced Team Leader who is strongly focused on innovation, staff development and building a long-term, sustainable program of works. You will be in a supportive environment to develop your technical capability, broaden your understanding of asset management risks and outcomes, and as part of your career development, progress towards more senior roles within the structures asset management function.

While structural experience is beneficial, an engineering qualification is not required. Success in this role relies on sound judgement, practical decision-making and an understanding of asset risk and outcomes rather than purely technical calculations.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Experience or a strong interest in structures or asset management, supporting the planning, inspection and maintenance of bridge assets.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced asset management environment, prioritising competing tasks using sound judgement and strong time management skills.
  • Strong analytical capability, with the ability to assess risk, analyse information and make informed management decisions, seeking additional information where required.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, including the ability to prepare accurate reports and technical documentation.
  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships with internal teams, consultants and external stakeholders.
  • Confidence working both in the office and in the field, including undertaking inspections and asset condition assessments.

What We Offer:

At Main Roads, you can have a challenging, flexible and rewarding career that takes you exactly where you want to go with an organisation who supports a healthy work-life balance to help with what is important to you.

In addition to rewarding work, and the security of a permanent position, some of the benefits of working with Main Roads include:

  • Receive a 3.5% salary increase on 1st Feb 2026, as part of our CSA agreement
  • Option to work 37.5hrs or 40 hours per week
  • Competitive salaries, including 12% superannuation
  • Attractive leave provisions, such as leave loading and purchase leave options (up to 10 weeks)
  • Access to 13 weeks of long service leave after 7 years of continuous service
  • Training and development opportunities
  • Health and wellbeing focus
  • Individual performance and development plan (PDP) to support your growth and career development
  • Enjoy an attractive additional three extra leave days per year (Public Sector Days)
