HAYLO People have partnered exclusively with Insurance Commission of Western Australia in their search for a Reinsurance Manager.

The Insurance Commission of Western Australia (Insurance Commission) is a State-owned Government Trading Enterprise that provides motor injury insurance to WA motorists and manages the self-insurance arrangement of the Western Australian Government.

The Role

As a senior leader within the Government Insurance Division, The Reinsurance Manager will:

  • Lead strategic design and placement of reinsurance programs to ensure effective risk transfer and long-term financial sustainability.
  • Support strategic delivery by contributing to the Government Insurance Division’s business plan, budget, and overall priorities in partnership with senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with the reinsurance broker and internal teams to ensure reinsurance contracts provide the required coverage, align with the reinsurance strategy, and enforceable.
  • Manage reinsurance budgets and recoveries and ensure timely internal and external reporting.
  • Mentor and develop team capability, supporting succession planning and fostering a high performance
  • Build strong relationships with reinsurers, insurers and brokers, driving innovation and continuous improvement through analytics and technology.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will require the following experience and attributes:

  • Proven ability to lead, empower, and develop high performing teams, fostering a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience guiding cross functional teams in complex environments.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills, with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive relationships with reinsurers, insurers, brokers, clients, regulators, and internal teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective networks and convey complex technical information clearly and persuasively across diverse audiences.
  • Advanced analytical skills, with the ability to interpret exposure data, apply actuarial and risk modelling insights, and evaluate reinsurance program performance.
  • Extensive experience designing, structuring, and negotiating reinsurance programs aligned with organisational risk appetite, financial goals, and regulatory obligations.
  • Strategic thinker with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation, leveraging data and technology to optimise reinsurance outcomes and support business objectives.

In addition to the immediately available positions, appointments may be made from this process within a twelve-month period to similar positions that may be permanent or contract, including fixed-term appointments with the possibility of extension or subsequent permanency.
