The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Financial Accounting Manager to take a lead role in managing Main Roads’ external financial reporting and asset accounting functions. This is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and transparency of the organisation’s financial information, while driving compliance with the Financial Management Act 2006, Treasury requirements, and Australian Accounting Standards.

In this role, you will oversee the recording, valuation, and reporting of Main Roads’ significant infrastructure asset base, and provide strategic direction in the development of financial management policies, standards, and procedures. You will work collaboratively across the organisation to deliver timely, high-quality financial reporting outcomes that support effective decision-making and accountability.

As the Financial Accounting Manager, you will be a trusted advisor to senior management and a key liaison with external stakeholders, including the Department of Treasury and Finance, the Office of the Auditor General, and the Australian Accounting Standards Board. You will also lead and mentor a dedicated team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and professional development.

To be successful in this role you need to demonstrate your capability to articulate operational requirements to other leaders so that strategic and key objectives are understood and achieved. Furthermore, you will demonstrate a proactive approach to seeking development and learning opportunities for both your own professional development, and that of your teams.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Manage Main Roads’ external financial reporting, including monthly Treasury submissions and annual financial statements.
  • Oversee the valuation, depreciation and reporting of infrastructure and other assets.
  • Develop, review and maintain financial management and accounting policies, standards and procedures.
  • Provide expert advice on accounting and reporting matters across the organisation.
  • Implement new accounting standards and Treasury requirements.
  • Represent Main Roads on committees and working groups relating to financial management and infrastructure accounting.
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of finance professionals to ensure delivery of high-quality financial management services,
