About the Role
Main Roads is seeking to recruit two (2) Road Construction Surveillance Officers (Contract Management Officer (Roads)) on a permanent basis.
This role is responsible for coordinating and carrying out onsite surveillance of road construction, resurfacing, and rehabilitation projects, ensuring compliance with Main Roads specifications, contractual requirements and best practices. In this role you will primarily be onsite, working collaboratively with contractors to undertake a range of duties including quality assurance, contract performance surveillance and ensuring safety onsite.
To be successful in this position, you will have sound knowledge and onsite experience in road construction, resurfacing and rehabilitation projects as well as experience in enforcing specification and contractual requirements. This role is suited to a self-sufficient and autonomous individual with proven negotiation skills.
This position undertakes significant nightshift (potentially up to 6 months annually) with some weekend work.

In addition to our competitive salary and 12% superannuation, some of the benefits of working with Main Roads include:
- 9 day fortnight; 80 hours
- Nightshift season (up to 6 months) runs Sunday night to Thursday night; occasional Friday night also

- Starting hourly rate depends on your relevant experience and will increase by a further 3.5% on 1 February 2026
- Accrual of a minimum of 4 weeks annual leave, 10 public holidays, 3 additional public service holidays and 15 days personal leave per annum.
- 13 weeks long service leave after 7 years continuous service.
- Annual Leave Loading of 17.5% is paid in December each year. Shift workers may be eligible for Annual Leave Loading of 20%

Additional Information
All selection criteria listed in the Job Role Statement will be tested throughout the selection process.
The successful applicant will be required to complete a satisfactory pre-employment medical assessment and National Police Clearance prior to appointment. For this role the medical assessment will involve a range of physical fitness tests including lifting and carrying, cardiovascular, and range of movement screening as well as a drug and alcohol test.
Applicants deemed as suitable for but not appointed to this role may also be considered for appointment to “similar vacancies” within Main Roads subject to business requirements.
