There are several stages of the Transit Officer recruitment process, and you must be available to attend each stage in person as detailed below:
- Aptitude Assessments (online)
- Physical Testing Assessment Centre (must attend in person)
- Psychometric and Medical Assessment
- Induction & Training: Commences Jan 2026
Please Note: As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a series of assessments. These assessments are designed to ensure candidates meet the necessary competencies for the role. Further details will be provided to those who advance in the recruitment process.
Transit Officer assessment results are valid for 24 months. If unsuccessful, candidates are eligible to reapply after this period.
This is a pool recruitment process where suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which permanent appointments may be made within the next 12 months.
To be eligible to work permanently at the PTA you must be either an Australian Citizen, have Permanent Residency status or hold a current visa with permanent working rights in Australia.

We’re seeking individuals who can maintain a safe environment for all passengers and staff, particularly when faced with unpredictable and potentially dangerous situations. In your cover letter, please describe a challenging situation (critical incident) where you had to quickly assess a rapidly escalating situation and outlining the step-by-step approach you took to deescalate and ensure the safety of yourself and others.
