The Role

Are you friendly, supportive and looking for an opportunity to support student learning?

The Home Economics Assistant is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean and organised learning environment in the Enterprise/Home Economics learning area.  They support teachers, staff and students during practical lessons and prepare food items/lesson materials to ensure the smooth delivery of curriculum content.  Hammond Park SC is fortunate to offer a number of Enterprise/Home Economics courses of study and qualifications including Food & Nutrition, Food Science & Technology, Certificate II in Hospitality, Certificate III in Community Services as well as elective programs including International Food, Café Culture and World Cuisine.  Our course offerings are reviewed regularly to ensure they align to student interests and pathways.  As such, the Home Economics Assistant should be flexible in supporting the planning of educational programs.

On a daily basis, the Home Economics Assistant prepares ingredients, materials, consumables and equipment before lessons ensuring efficient delivery of practicals and demonstrations.  They also assist with the clean up and storage of items afterwards.  A key component of this role is the management of foodstocks and curriculum ingredients.  The successful applicant should have the ability to handle food orders, coordinating with suppliers and managing online orders while following protocols for storage, recordkeeping and quality checks.  Strong organisational skills will assist the successful applicant in performing stock rotation, using the Class Cart (Project Groceries) application for determining quantities of goods for each lesson and complete required financial processing. 

Applicants who are friendly, engaging and able to support teaching staff are encouraged to apply.  As this is a hands-on, practical role the successful applicant should be passionate about working with students to build their skills in the kitchen and beyond.  One-on-one or small group work with students is sometimes required.
