About The Role

We currently have opportunities available in our Graduate – Landscape Architect Program to offer recent graduates who have completed a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (Honours preferred not essential)

Applications will also be considered from current students who will be completing their degree by December 2025 for our 2026 intake.

This is a three-year rotational program, providing learning experiences in a range of specialist areas.  The rotations are based on your strengths, skills, and interests coupled with business needs.

You will have the opportunity to work in all facets of urban and landscape design within a high performing and experienced team undertaking various responsibilities in the following areas:

  • hard and soft landscaping
  • delivering urban design in built form treatments in road infrastructure projects
  • public and community art
  • liaison with internal stakeholders including engineers and project managers
  • liaison with external stakeholders including other government departments, local government and consultants

We offer a well-structured rotation plan and formal training to support your development. On completing the graduate program, you will be offered a permanent position in the organisation.

About You

We are looking for highly motivated graduates who aren’t afraid of a challenge and want to make a difference to urban and landscape design in Western Australia.  You will need to have excellent problem-solving skills and be able to work both independently and as a team member.

To be considered for our Graduate Environment Program, you must:

  • Be a recent university graduate (within 3 years from completion of your bachelor’s degree) or have your degree completed by December 2025 for our 2026 intake.
  • An Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Be motivated to work at Main Roads, demonstrated through your strengths and personal attributes
  • Have a career interest in urban and landscape design
  • Have strong problem solving skills, including embracing change and challenge
  • Be great at working together in teams
  • Be able to build relationships with stakeholders

Please submit the following documentation in your application:

  • A copy of your Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (Honours preferred not essential)  – completed between December 2022 – December 2025 and your academic transcript. Applicants that are currently completing their studies are to submit their most current academic results.
  • Your CV
  • A copy of your current WA motor vehicle (car) Driver’s Licence (or approved equivalent)
  • Proof of Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency
  • A cover letter of no more than 2 pages outlining why you are interested in working for the Main Roads Graduate Landscape Architect Program, and how you demonstrate the following qualities:
    • When you have worked in a team environment creating successful outcomes
    • Used your communication skills through work, university or other areas to clearly explain a situation or task.
    • Ability to solve a problem or problems in a workplace, university or other areas you have experienced.

Please ensure your cover letter does not exceed two (2) pages.

Successful applicants will need to complete a pre-employment medical assessment and national police clearance prior to appointment.
