2025/26 Vacation Student Program – Urban Planning
Voted as one of the top intern programs in Australia since 2018 by students (AAGE), the Public Transport Authority’s (PTA) Vacation Student Program provides opportunities for current university students to work alongside experienced and skilled transport planners who will assist them in developing an understanding of the PTA’s business and enable them to apply their skills in a practical setting.

About the role:
The PTA presents an exciting opportunity for students who are currently studying a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (or equivalent) to join our Vacation Student Program. The twelve-week program will run from Monday 24 November 2025 to Friday 13 February 2026. You will be assigned a workplace supervisor and will complete meaningful work during your placement enabling you to make an active contribution to the PTA. You will also be part of a networking group which connects you with our current / previous PTA Graduates.

How to Apply
To apply for the 2025/26 Vacation Student Program, you MUST:
- Be currently studying towards a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (or equivalent). Please note: Preference will be given to students currently in their penultimate year of study.
- Commit to and be available for full time employment over the 12-week program
To be considered for these positions, please submit the following:
- A current CV;
- Provide a recent Academic Transcript so we can verify your WAM;
- Provide the following information on the online application form:
- State why you are applying for this program;
- Describe a situation where you had to manage your time effectively, and
- Describe a problem you encountered and how you resolved it;
- Provide two work-related references; and
- Confirm that you are currently enrolled and will be returning to your studies in 2026.
Applicants who are shortlisted for further assessment will be asked to undertake psychometric testing. Course Weighted Average Marks (WAM’s), current year of study and psychometric testing results will be assessed as part of the application process. Please refer to the Vacation Student Program Brochure for further details pertaining to the recruitment process and associated timeframes.
Although preference will be given to candidates who are Australian permanent residents or are Australian/New Zealand citizens, we may consider candidates who possess temporary working visas. Temporary working visas must allow you to reside and work full time in Australia to November 2026.
