About the opportunity
Are you passionate about the Northern Beef industry and ready to make a real impact? Our Livestock Directorate is on the hunt for driven mid-career professionals to join our passionate team of 5. We're leading and collaborating on bold, hands-on research and extension projects that transform cattle production in northern Western Australia — and we want you on the team! There are currently two (2) permanent positions available.
What you'll work on:
- Developing and delivering projects in grazing land management, animal nutrition, welfare, reproduction, sustainability, and on-farm productivity.
- Accelerating adoption of regionally relevant research development and innovation.
- Delivering real-world outcomes that directly benefit WA’s northern cattle industry through improving business performance.
- Collaborating with passionate scientists, stakeholders, producers, and industry leaders.
- Driving innovation that supports a resilient, efficient, and sustainable livestock industry.
- Contributing to the economic development of the agri-food industry with a focus on export led growth.
You will be liaising with key industry stakeholders and contributing to the growth and sustainability of the northern livestock sector. This is a rare opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of northern beef development in WA.
We have two permanent positions for immediate filling and are looking for individuals with knowledge and skills in extensive livestock production systems with proven practices of extension and industry development. You will also have:
- Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to consult, advise and convey information to stakeholders in order to achieve strategic outcomes.
- The ability to establish clear plans and timeframes, evaluate performance, identify the need for change, determine action and see tasks and projects through to completion.
- Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills including the ability to provide practical solutions to challenging issues and problems.
- The ability to lead teams and work collaboratively in a team environment contributing to the achievement of team goals.

DPIRD is an Emergency Management Agency and all employees may be required to work or travel during, or outside of, normal business hours to assist with incidents and emergencies.
