About the role
This position plays a critical role in safeguarding the Public Transport Authority’s (PTA) IT and Are you passionate about protecting critical infrastructure from cyber threats? Join the Public Transport Authority (PTA) as a Cyber Security Specialist, where you'll play a vital role in defending our IT and Operational Technology (OT) networks. You’ll be responsible for conducting vulnerability scans, analysing security risks, and implementing robust physical and virtual security systems. In this role, you'll work closely with IT and OT teams to provide expert advice, ensure system performance, troubleshoot issues, and integrate emerging technologies. Your work will directly ensure that the PTA's IT/OT infrastructure remains secure and resilient against potential threats and vulnerabilities.
As a key technical leader, you’ll contribute to strategic planning, risk management, and business continuity initiatives while supporting security governance across the organisation. You'll act as a subject matter expert, provide insights into current security trends, and develop performance metrics to measure the effectiveness of PTA’s cyber security operations. The role also involves delivering high-quality service, supporting projects aligned with our technological direction, and fostering continuous improvement. About You!
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- Tertiary education in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field is essential, with relevant certifications such as CISSP or GIAC preferred. Candidates should have significant experience in cybersecurity or information security, including hands-on work with vulnerability management tools and processes.
- A strong understanding of cybersecurity principles is crucial, particularly in areas such as threat detection, incident response, and building organizational threat profiles. Experience leading security incident response efforts and working with security tool integration, automation, and orchestration is highly valued.
- Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams across IT and business units is important. Experience within an Operational Technology (OT) environment is considered a plus.
- Demonstrates strong conceptual and analytical abilities with the capacity to interpret data and produce actionable insights. Capable of thriving in fast-paced environments, meeting targets through effective planning, people management, and leadership that fosters support for IT security principles.
- Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively with stakeholders. Upholds public service values through professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to continuous self-improvement.

There is one permanent full-time opportunity available for an immediate start. Applicants holding full work rights in Australia until at least 31 December 2027 are also encouraged to apply and may be considered if assessed as suitable.
