Be part of something meaningful. Shape the future of a values-driven organisation committed to remembrance, community, and culture.
The Metropolitan Cemeteries Board (MCB) is embarking on an exciting new chapter – and we’re looking for a strategic, and self-driven Chief Human Resources Officer to lead the way.
Our aspiration is to be a sanctuary for our community, preserving history and culture while providing places for remembrance and connection. Following a recent review of our HR service delivery model, this newly created leadership role will play a critical part in building the organisational capability needed to realise that vision.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CHRO will shape, drive, and deliver contemporary workforce and workplace strategies that support our people and our purpose. You will lead a small, capable team to deliver HR services that are streamlined, responsive, and enabled by data, policy, and digital systems.
This is your chance to build and lead a modern People and Culture function from the ground up — one that creates real impact through partnering with business areas, collaboration, leadership, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic HR Leadership: Develop and implement workforce and organisational development strategies that align with MCB’s strategic direction and community-focused mission.
- Organisational Culture & Capability: Champion a values-led, team-oriented culture through effective change initiatives, capability building, and leadership development.
- Governance & Compliance: Ensure workforce practices meet all legislative and industrial requirements while maintaining MCB’s integrity and reputation.
- Workforce Planning: Shape workforce strategies that anticipate future needs and support a sustainable, high-performing organisation.
- HR Operations: Lead and evolve the delivery of day-to-day HR services including recruitment, performance, employee relations, systems, and reporting.
- People & Culture Advisory: Provide high-level advice to the CEO and senior leaders on all people and culture matters.
What You Bring
- A strong track record of success in a senior HR leadership role, ideally within government or purpose-driven organisations.
- Deep experience in organisational development, HR transformation, and building workforce capability.
- High-level strategic thinking paired with operational know-how — you can shape the vision and roll up your sleeves to get things done.
- A passion for people, culture, and community — and the ability to build trust across all levels of an organisation.
Why Join Us?
At MCB, you’ll be part of something bigger than a workplace. You’ll contribute to a legacy of cultural preservation, community connection, and public service. We offer a collaborative environment where your leadership will be valued and your impact visible.
