The opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Master Planning this role shapes the future of the funeral industry by supporting the MCB’s land use and infrastructure planning and cemetery management by collecting, maintaining, analysing and interpreting the MCB’s geographical data.  In this role, you will be responsible for designing and maintaining spatial systems and data, to create maps, performing research, and analysis including surveys using spatial information and CAD software. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to;

• Strategic site planning and technical advice: Assess land suitability, generate feasibility plans, and develop maps for sustainable cemetery developments. Provide spatial expertise for strategic site planning, and coordinate technical survey and design activities.
• Spatial database management: Develop and maintain a spatial database, innovate mapping practices, and conduct data analysis for strategic insights.
• Field inspections and integration:  Perform field inspections, integrate historical and current plans into GIS, and maintain CAD maps and drawing registers.
• Data collection and SQL Procedures:  Collect spatial information using surveying techniques, and develop transact SQL stored procedures.
• Stakeholder management:  Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, provide strategic advice on spatial issues, and offer technical support and coaching.
• Support operations:  provides mapping services for site burials, memorials, landscaping, wayfinding and new projects.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have as a minimum; 

• Technical Proficiency: Tertiary qualifications in Spatial Sciences, Surveying, GIS, Data or Computer Science and extensive experience in the relevant field. Extensive experience in applications such as Web GIS, ESRI ArcGIS, and AutoCAD. Proficient in spatial data management, version control, and metadata management. Experience in data analytics and integrations application, methodology and scripting language such as python, SQL scripting, and application programming interface (API).
• Data Management: Strong skills in managing and maintaining GIS databases, including data collection, integration and quality assurance.
• Surveying and mapping: Experience in conducting surveys and creating accurate maps for burial sites, memorials, landscaping and other infrastructure.
• Communication skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clear, concise reports and regulatory documents.
• Stakeholder management. Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholder. Experience working with diverse stakeholders including government, industry and community sectors.
