The Legal and Legislative
Services (LLS) unit is expanding its legislative team and has
several exciting and professionally rewarding opportunities for
suitably qualified, enthusiastic and proactive individuals who want
to be part of a dedicated team serving the WA health system and the

L6 – permanent/fixed term/secondment part-time/full-time)
and one Senior Legislative Advisor (PSO L7 –
fixed term/secondment part-time/full-time with the opportunity for

As a member of Legal and
Legislative Services, you will be part of the cutting edge of law,
effecting positive change within the community with a direct and
immediate impact, such as legislation relating to various public
health risks including the control of tobacco, vaping and nitrous
oxide, and notifiable infectious diseases. Our work is
multifaceted, sensitive and high profile, including providing
legislative support to health policy matters such as Health
responses to Parliament, covering areas such as assisted
reproductive technology and surrogacy, abortion, human tissue
matters, use and regulation of medicines and poisons, and a suite
of public health matters.
About the
roles
As Legislative Advisor and
Senior Legislative Advisor, you will:
- Assist
in delivering the Minister for Health’s legislation
program under the direction of the Director and Principal
Legislative Advisor.
- Manage
the preparation of draft bills and assist in their passage
through Parliament.
- Manage
the preparation of amendments and new subsidiary
legislation.
- Research
and prepare responses to correspondence on various matters for
the Minister, Director General and others.
- Prepare
and provide input into discussion papers and policy reports on
various complex matters relating to reviews of health
legislation.
- Provide
advice relating to draft legislation and the implementation of
amendments to legislation.
- Provide
leadership and mentoring across the Legal and Legislative
Services team.
- Develop,
coach and supervise the Legislative and Research Officers to
achieve key deliverables, provide constructive feedback and
manage performance.
These roles are an integral
part of a flexible, supportive, and collegiate multidisciplinary
team of lawyers, legislative advisors and administrators. You
will have the requisite autonomy and will be expected to use your
initiative and sound judgement to assist in coordinating the
Minister for Health’s legislative program and provide
pragmatic legislative advice. You will be required to work
effectively and collaboratively with all areas of the Department of
Health and other stakeholders.

opportunities, and assisting senior legal and legislative staff
with high level and complex matters.

This is a Recruitment Pool
for Permanent Full Time, Permanent Part Time, Fixed Term Full Time

vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 31
