This position is a
fixed-term, full-time appointment for five (5) years.
The South Metropolitan Health
Service (SMHS) is seeking an exceptional, driven and passionate
individual with a track record of successful leadership to take on
the fulfilling and highly rewarding position of Chief
Executive.
As one of the largest health
services in Western Australia, the SMHS provides hospital and
community-based services to a quarter of WA’s population
within nine local government areas, as well as supporting WA
Country Health Service patients from the Great Southern, Southern,
Wheatbelt and Goldfields regions. In addition, the SMHS provides a
range of metropolitan-wide services.
The SMHS hospital network provides
tertiary, secondary and specialist healthcare services. This
includes emergency and critical care, elective and emergency
surgery, general medical, mental health, inpatient and outpatient
services, aged care, palliative care and women’s,
children’s and neonates’ services.
The SMHS also delivers the
following statewide specialist services:
- Adult burns
- Hyperbaric
- Rehabilitation
- Heart, lung and renal transplants
- Bone marrow transplants
- Haemophilia and haemostasis.
The SMHS is a Board governed
statutory authority that is legally responsible and accountable for
the delivery of safe, high-quality, efficient and economical health
services to WA.
Position Profile:
Based in Perth, the Chief Executive is accountable for the
strategic and operational delivery of health services within the
SMHS, as well as continuing to deliver on the SMHS 2021-25
Strategic Plan which prioritises the delivery of patient-centred,
high-quality ad financially sustainable health care, and
strengthens engagement with patients, families, staff and the
community to design and improve the delivery of healthcare
services.
The Chief Executive also
contributes to the overall strategic leadership of the WA health
system and achievement of whole of health system outcomes including
delivery of recommendations from the
Sustainable Health Review and
Independent Review of WA Health System Governance.
The Chief Executive is employed by
the Director General, Department of Health, and reports to both the
Director General and the SMHS Board Chair.
The successful applicant will have
a proven track record in executive leadership in a large, complex
health care organisation and possess a wide range of expertise
including:
- Demonstrated track record in transformational
leadership
- Demonstrated results and achievements in ensuring optimal
patient outcomes, organisational wide governance and policy
standards
- Excellent commercial acumen
- Strong operational and financial management skills
- Strong communication, stakeholder management and
negotiation skills
- Ability to inspire and drive high-performing teams
- Proven analytical, strategic and problem-solving
skills
Experience in large scale hospital
redevelopment commissioning would also be advantageous.
