About
our Team
The Child and
Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Western
Australia offer support, advice and treatment to children and
adolescents from birth to 18 years who are experiencing mental
health challenges. Children and families are referred to CAMHS by
their treating therapist, specialist, GP, school, or other
community organisation.
Mental health issues can
deeply impact the emotional and social well-being of children and
their families. The Aboriginal Mental Health Resource
Worker will be a resource to the Acute Care and
Response Team, enhancing the accessibility of mental
health services and providing support, advice and appropriate care
to Aboriginal consumers and families. The ACRT is a new service
model, arising from the ICA Taskforce. The team will provide a step
up in intensity of service to children and adolescents experiencing
a crisis or deterioration in their mental health. This will include
crisis response, assessment, safety planning,short-term
intervention, planning for ongoing care, and supplementary care for
children with severe and enduring mental ill health. Care will be
provided close to home in a community setting, reducing the need
for hospital presentations.
About
the Position
We are seeking an
Aboriginal Mental Health Resource Worker in
an integral role on the ACRTs.
As a clinician on the team,
you’ll be required to conduct home and community visits
during business hours and out of hours on a rostered basis,
including after hours and on weekends, based on operational needs.
You’ll be part of a team that prioritises patient and staff
safety and receive training and ongoing
supervision.
You will play a vital role
in improving overall well-being as you help children, adolescents
and their families navigate the challenges that can arise from
complex and diverse needs and mental health concerns.
Your focus will be
on:
- Cultural
consultancy & advocacy – Provide strategic
cultural consultation and advocacy to enhance culturally
responsive mental health services for Aboriginal children,
adolescents, and families
- Clinical Support
& Collaboration – Work alongside clinical
teams to improve accessibility, crisis intervention, and
culturally appropriate mental health care. Support consumers
and families in their mental health journey, self-care, and
recovery.
- Education &
Training – Deliver cross-cultural training for
staff and stakeholders, educate health professionals on
Aboriginal cultural considerations, and contribute to the
development of assessment tools and treatment
approaches.
- Community
Engagement & Liaison – Act as a cultural
advocate, foster partnerships with Aboriginal health and
community organisations, and encourage community involvement in
mental health initiatives.
- Policy &
Service Development – Assist in shaping
policies, procedures, and mental health services to better meet
the needs of Aboriginal children, adolescents, and their
families.

supervision, a unique form of clinical supervision tailored to
the cultural context.
- Navigating Culture
and Clinical Settings: Develop best practices in handling
the interface between culture and clinical settings. As an
Aboriginal Mental Health Worker, you'll be at the forefront of
addressing these critical issues, ensuring the best outcomes
for our diverse clientele.
