Looking to further develop and exercise your investigation skills?

As an Investigator, you will play a pivotal role in uncovering breaches of legislation and ensuring compliance.

Would you like to work in a genuinely exciting, flexible and friendly work environment, which offers its people a range of benefits, including flexible working hours, working at home, in the field or in the office to help support you and get the best results possible for our community? Then the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) is for you!

We value diversity and appreciate every individual’s perspective, bringing together a diverse and inclusive workforce to drive innovation and success. Whether it is enabling the next big discovery in the mining sector, protecting workers’ health and safety, transforming energy supply and emissions, or rolling out new technology to provide better customer service, DEMIRS is committed to delivering for the benefit of WA and future generations.

The role

As the Investigator, you will conduct investigations in relation to matters raised under legislation administered by Consumer Protection and where appropriate compile briefs of evidence for use in any court or tribunal. You will also provide advice on investigations, offences and non-compliance matters.

You will analyse complaints, prepare investigation plans, and gather evidence from relevant sources through appropriate means, such as collecting witness statements, executing search warrants and conducting records of interviews. You will assess the information received to identify potential offences or instances of non-compliance under applicable laws. Additionally, you will prepare high quality, factual written material in the form of letters, briefing notes, and investigation reports in line with Departmental standards containing sustainable recommendations for the consideration of the Commissioner for Consumer Protection in relation to assessments or investigative outcomes, including criminal, disciplinary or civil proceedings.

Your success in this role will rely on your expertise in conducting methodical investigations, along with your strong oral and written communication skills. You will also demonstrate proficiency in interpreting, analysing and applying legislation to identify non-compliance.

Please refer to the Job Description Form (JDF) attached for further information regarding the position, including any specific requirements, capabilities and pre-employment checks which will be assessed as part of the selection process.
