Situated in the scenic South West region, the Wellington District is a popular destination for outdoor adventure enthusiasts. The region features world class tracks and trails including the Bibbulman Track and Munda Biddi Trail. The area is popular all year round with magnificent shows of some of the 300 species of colourful wildflowers every spring and over 70 bird species. You may even spot a unique animal such as a chuditch, quenda, quokka, brushtail possum, woylie or Western ringtail possum.
The South West Region’s key service deliverables include nature conservation, parks and visitor services, sustainable forest management, fire management, and land-use planning. This role will be based in the Wellington District, located at Collie.
We are currently seeking an Assistant Operations Officer to join our Wellington District Nature Conservation team.
Under immediate direction from the District Coordinator Conservation, you will:
- Assist with the delivery of conservation, parks and visitor services, sustainable forest management and fire management programs within the South West region.
- Liaise with district and regional personnel as appropriate, to achieve the organisation and implementation of allocated works programs.
- The position is focused on conservation activities but may operate across all the services within the district depending upon the development program engaged in and the operational needs of the district.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.
- Some knowledge (Level 1) and experience (Level 2) in working in natural land management or a closely related field or a related technical area, with a preference for some experience in conservation and parks and visitor services with knowledge of conservation and other land management issues.
- Broad understanding of the issues involved in planning and implementing works programs.
- Evidence of sound effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with an ability and willingness to work closely with community and special interest groups.
- Some proficiency in computer skills for word processing, spreadsheets and data processing with a preference for knowledge and experience with GPS and GIS applications.
