Why we need you
Heavy Vehicle Services Directorate (HVS) is responsible for safe, efficient and sustainable heavy vehicle access to the Western Australian road network. Our role is to achieve objectives for road safety, transport efficiency, community amenity and preservation of the state’s road asset.
At HVS we work with state and national transport industry groups, individual operators, government bodies, regional areas, and other key departments across Main Roads.
About these role
We have exciting opportunities for Traffic Inspectors travelling throughout our picturesque State of Western Australia.
In this Category 1 role, you will undertake on-road enforcement of various Acts and Regulations controlling the operations of heavy vehicles.
You will inspect heavy vehicles for compliance and enforcement in areas such as regulatory mass and dimension limits, road worthiness, security of loads and carriage of dangerous and hazardous goods. Furthermore, you will interview operators to ascertain compliance with permits and notices, suspected breaches of licensing requirements (drivers/vehicle) and accreditation standards including fatigue management. Conducting investigations will be a key component of this role, drawing on your comprehensive research and analysis skills.
To be successful in this role, you will use your understanding of heavy vehicles and strong research and analysis skills to do your part in helping Main Roads achieve a safe road network throughout the state.

- On-road enforcement of heavy vehicles compliance requirements inline with State or Territory legislations governing the operation of heavy vehicles on the public road network.
- Conducting evidential investigation, preparing detailing documents /reports, and presenting evidence at various forums.
- Mitigating conflict in confronting situations.
Please also submit evidence of your current Western Australian ‘C’ Class (car) motor vehicle drivers’ licence or an approved equivalent.

Additional Information
All selection criteria listed in the Job Role Statement will be tested throughout the selection process.
Prior to appointment applicants will need to complete a pre-employment medical assessment and provide a National Police Clearance.
These jobs will involve extensive regional travel either by road or air and therefore will require you to be away from the metropolitan area for the duration of the roster. You will also if successful be required to obtain a Senior First Aid Certificate within the training period.
Applicants deemed as suitable for but not appointed to this role may also be considered for appointment to "similar vacancies" within Main Roads subject to business requirements.
