The Role
Melville SHS is seeking an innovative and collaborative Head of Learning Area – Humanities and Social Sciences. The successful applicant will collaborate with the Principal and executive team to provide effective educational leadership across the school. They will lead the delivery of high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment programs, including the Western Australian Curriculum and WACE courses, with a strong understanding of Humanities education.
The successful applicant will ideally continuously reflect on and assess their teaching practices, fostering an environment of active learning while providing educational opportunities that help students reach their highest potential. With strong interpersonal skills, they will ideally work closely with students, colleagues, and the community to achieve the best educational outcomes.
As an innovative Head of Learning Area, the applicant will ideally play a key role in modelling exemplary practices and building the capacity of their team to maintain high standards. They will ideally also contribute to school planning processes, including the analysis of student performance data, development of performance and improvement plans, and the application of an evidence-based approach to student success.
To be suitable for this role, you will ideally need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g., Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.
