Position Profile and Role:
We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our infection prevention and control team at the Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) and lead our Hand Hygiene program.
Your Key Responsibilities:
In line with the National Hand Hygiene Initiative (NHHI):
- Program Coordination: Lead the hand hygiene program, ensuring compliance with national standards, conducting data analysis, and reporting results.
- Auditing Excellence: Oversee Hand Hygiene auding, coordinating with qualified unit-based auditors to maintain high standards of practice.
- Staff Education & Upskilling: Empower internal auditors with ongoing education and skills development, ensuring they provide valuable feedback and maintain compliance.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with management, co-directors, and medical heads to report on outcomes and support ward areas in developing action plans.
- Research & Quality Improvement: Prepare comprehensive reports post-audit, leveraging data to validate outcomes and drive continuous quality improvement and research.

About our Team:
Our dedicated Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) specialist nurses play a critical role in maintaining a safe and healthy environment within our hospital. We support multidisciplinary teams and contribute clinical and professional expertise in the delivery of comprehensive, evidence-based and patient-centred care to our young patients and their families. Our primary objective is to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and minimise the risk of infections among patients, healthcare workers, and visitors.
In addition to developing improvement projects, ensuring effective cleaning, monitoring pathogen resistance, analysing infection data, defining protocols such as hygiene practice, and providing comprehensive education and training to healthcare staff within the hospital, we also provide best practice guidance to our patients for use at home and after discharge to encourage prevention and minimise the risks of infection.
