Kickstart your career early with the Department of Education WA
Join us through the Public Sector Commission of Western Australia’s School Based Traineeship Program. This opportunity is perfect for students entering Year 11 in 2025 who are eager to launch their career early.
In this program, you’ll gain real-world experience by working part-time at a Department of Education site, learning valuable workplace skills, and being paid while you finish Years 11 and 12.
As the largest public sector employer in WA, this traineeship will give you an insight to the wide range of career options in Education, including teaching, administration, project management, human resources, IT support, and more!
With over 800 schools and workplaces across the city, regional areas, and remote communities, we're dedicated to supporting your journey towards a successful career that starts with us.
Who can apply?
To apply for a 2025 traineeship, students must:
- be starting Year 11 in 2025
- be permanent residents or Australian or New Zealand citizens or provide copies of Australian visas that supports the traineeship contract requirements.
Home school students are not eligible for school-based traineeships as they are not enrolled in a school and do not meet the achievement requirements of WACE through home education studies.
What you can expect
Trainees will:
- work 2 days a week (Thursday and Friday) in a public sector agency and this counts towards their Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE)
- complete a nationally recognised Certificate II in Government qualification
- receive support from a workplace supervisor to develop workplace skills for future employment.
See information for students for more.
We also encourage students who live in regional and remote locations to apply.
