The Energy and Water Ombudsman WA acknowledges the Aboriginal peoples of Western Australia as the traditional custodians of the lands and waterways throughout Western Australia, and we pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

We are seeking two new Board Directors to represent the interests of customers of electricity, gas and water services. The remuneration is currently $18,943 per year (including superannuation). The term of appointment is three years, with a possible extension for a further three years. Directors will take office in November.

About the Energy and Water Ombudsman WA (EWOWA)

EWOWA is an independent and impartial body that receives, investigates and resolves complaints about electricity, gas and water providers in Western Australia.

The Board

The Board is responsible for the overall oversight of the dispute resolution scheme, which is operated on a day-to-day basis by the office of the Western Australian Ombudsman on its behalf through a specific contract for services. The Board does not become involved in the investigation or resolution of individual disputes. EWOWA operates as a public company limited by guarantee, whose members are the electricity, gas and water providers.

The key duties of the Board of Directors are to manage the business, budget and policy planning of the Company. The Board does not become involved in the handling of complaints.

The EWOWA Board consists of seven directors: an independent chairperson, three customer representative directors, and three directors representing the gas, electricity and water industries.

The Board usually meets quarterly in person in Perth, with some matters also considered between meetings by email or online. Further information regarding the role of the Board is contained in the attached Information Pack.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  1. Understanding of the interests and concerns of residential and small business customers in the energy (gas, electricity) and water industries.
  2. Sound working knowledge of issues pertaining to the energy and water industries.
  3. Experience as a director of a board or demonstrated capacity to understand the role of a director of a board.
  4. Experience in the governance of a small-scale organisation.

Desirable

  1. Consideration will also be given to expertise in a profession or discipline that would add value to the Board, in particular, experience in dispute resolution and/or consumer advocacy.

Please note that, if you are selected, you will be required to provide a National Police Certificate.
