About The Role:
This is an exciting time to join Government Policy and Strategy (GPS). The Department of Finance is the functional lead for procurement across WA government. GPS is at the heart of this leadership role: we develop, review, and advise on procurement policy and practice for sector-wide goods, services and works procurement, and for delivery of community services.
We are involved in a wide range of matters including climate change, gender equality, innovation and support for local manufacturing. We work with Aboriginal businesses, community service providers and Australian disability enterprises – that’s only scratching the surface! The reason we’re involved in such a range of subjects is
because the Government places a high priority on using procurement to help drive change and outcomes for the Western Australian community.
We are a tight-knit team who work together well, provide a lot of support to each other, and are very friendly and social. Fresh ideas are welcomed, and everyone is actively encouraged to show leadership, look for opportunities to innovate, and have accountability for their work. Working in GPS gives you the chance to feel very connected to some of the key issues the WA government is focussed on.
You will be given plenty of support to learn the ropes of what we do and how we do it and to grow professionally.
There are three teams in GPS dealing with commercial procurement policy; community services procurement policy; and social procurement and sector capability. You may end up working in any one of these teams. If you get an interview with us, we’ll ask you whether you might have a preference but, ultimately, we’ll need to place you where we have the greatest need for your skills. It may even be possible that you work across teams.
Now for the technical bit:
The Policy Support Officer undertakes research and provides low to mid-level procurement policy advice and education to agencies, community, and social sector organisations and businesses on community services procurement policy, practice and initiatives.
