What is the role?
The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation is Western Australia’s (WA) lead agency for economic development, international trade and investment, and tourism. It also leads the promotion and development of the defence, international education, science, and innovation sectors.
The Department is currently seeking three (3) Investment and Trade Commissioners for the following regions: North East Asia (based in Tokyo); and ASEAN (one based in Jakarta and another based in Singapore). These will be offered for a period of 3 years with the possibility of extension. The successful candidates will commence their roles in Perth and be deployed overseas after an initial induction period.
The Department is seeking passionate WA public sector employees who are keen to promote the State’s investment and trade interests at an international level. The Investment and Trade Commissioners lead a range of activities with a team of locally engaged staff in multiple markets across their region to advance WA’s economic interests by:
- Working with senior stakeholders to realise commercial opportunities for the State and WA businesses
- Developing and maintaining strong business and government networks and connections in WA and overseas
- Gathering market intelligence and working collaboratively with stakeholders to identify investment and trade opportunities for WA businesses
- Developing and implementing innovative strategies in international markets to promote WA as a destination to live, work, study, invest and do business.
About you
You will:
- Be a current WA public sector employee with an interest in promoting WA as a preferred investment and trade destination to overseas business and government stakeholders.
- Have a strong track record in delivering strategic outcomes for the WA Government with a demonstrated ability to represent the WA Government with credibility and integrity.
- Have a keen interest in working as part of the Invest and Trade WA Global Network to progress your public sector career, enhancing your senior leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
Successful candidates will be supported with an on-boarding program including engagement with WA industry and public sector agencies, Departmental briefings, and cultural and language training (where necessary).
