Prison Officers for various regional and metropolitan locations across Western Australia
As a Prison Officer you will have the opportunity to work in a diverse range of facilities and interact with minimum to maximum security prisoners on a 24/7 roster system. Prison Officer functions ensure the safe, secure, and efficient operation of the prison and management of prisoners. You can make a positive difference to those you work with by role modelling behaviours and motivating prisoners to gain skills and knowledge, reduce re-offending and re-enter the community.
Special Operations Group Officers based in Canning Vale, Western Australia
As a member of our disciplined Special Operations Group (SOG) you will provide armed security support and emergency response for all correctional facilities within WA on a 24/7 roster system. SOG duties also include searches, high-security escorts, surveillance, and intelligence gathering. SOG officers are required to demonstrate good judgement under pressure, a flexible work ethic and an ongoing commitment to physical fitness and resilience.
To be successful in these roles you will demonstrate:
- Great communication skills to build positive relationships with a diverse prisoner population.
- A practical and common-sense approach to solving problems and being able to adapt to challenging situations.
- Excellent team working skills with colleagues and prisoners to achieve personal and professional goals.
- An awareness and understanding of Aboriginal people and their culture.

Smoke Free Policy
The Department of Justice has introduced a smoke-free policy, which will be fully implemented across the Academy by 28 February 2024, and all women’s prisons by 28 March 2024, with all other prison sites to follow over the next 12 – 18 months.
