The WA Police Force is looking to establish a pool to fill upcoming vacancies at both Karratha and Jandakot Bases. This pool recruitment process (Ref 00929) will run for a period of twelve (12) months and may be used to fill ongoing fixed term contracts, secondments, acting/relieving and permanent opportunities.
This shift work position operates on a rotational roster basis and includes night, day, afternoon, weekends and public holiday shifts. The payment of penalties will apply.
This position has a base salary up to $91,207 p.a (dependent on flying hours). This role also attracts allowances to the value of $19,146 p.a. An Attraction and Retention Incentive amount of $22,958 p.a (payable fortnightly on a pro rata basis) is currently applicable to this position in line with Government Sector Labour Relations approval dated 8 February 2023 (subject to review from 1 July 2024).

POSITION OBJECTIVE
This role ensures the safe and efficient operation of all fixed wing aircraft operated at the Police Air Wing (PAW) by piloting aircraft in accordance with all relevant procedures, regulations and legislation. Actively and openly participates in the PAW Safety Management System (SMS), promoting and fostering an open and just safety culture.
SPECIALIST PRE-REQUISITE
To be eligible for appointment, the following specialist pre-requisites must be met:
- It is a requirement that the position holder is successful in obtaining and maintaining a NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 1 security clearance for the duration of their appointment in the position. Only Australian Citizens are eligible to hold and maintain the NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 1 security clearance. Any applicants who are currently not an Australian Citizen must be aware that this is an essential requirement to fulfil this position (please refer to the attached position description). Whilst there is nothing to preclude applicants from applying for the position if they have not yet been granted Australian Citizenship, applicants who are successful should be aware that they cannot be appointed unless they are in the process of applying for Australian Citizenship and are eligible to receive citizenship prior to appointment.
- Holder of an Australian Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) issued pursuant to CASR Part 61.
- Holder of an Instrument Rating (Aeroplane) issued pursuant to CASR Part 61.
- Holder of a Night VFR Rating (Aeroplane).
- Experience in operating turbine powered aircraft or Multi Engine fixed wing.
- It is a requirement the position holder must hold and maintain a current Australian Class 1 Aviation Medical.
- It is a requirement of this position that applicants undertake a psychological assessment to determine their suitability, and as an incumbent, agree to undergo periodical psychological assessments, as required.

Experience – Flight hours
- 2000 hours as Pilot in Command of a fixed wing aircraft including a minimum of 500 hours as a Pilot in Command of a fixed wing turbine powered or Multi Engine fixed wing aircraft. Production and scrutiny of log books will be required.
Aeroplane Instrument Rating
- Holds a current valid Instrument Rating issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia, with a minimum of three (3) successful Instrument Proficiency checks as Pilot in Command of fixed wing aircraft. 100 hours of actual instrument flying time as Pilot in Command of fixed wing aircraft.
Night VFR Rating
- Night VFR Rating with 100 hours as Pilot in Command of fixed wing aircraft at night.
Applicants are also required to submit a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV). Your CV should provide enough detail (dot points are sufficient) to allow the selection panel to assess your skills, experience and qualifications relevant to the Key Accountabilities of the attached Position Description Form.
The CV must also include the names and contact details of two (2) referees who can comment on the applicant’s ability to satisfy all of the Essential Work Related Requirements. Applicants should nominate at least one immediate (most contemporary) supervisor/manager unless exceptional circumstances exist.

OTHER CONDITIONS
This POOL is being created to fill future vacancies that may arise within the Police Air Wing. This POOL will remain active for a period of twelve (12) months from the initial appointment. Applicants who are assessed as ‘suitable’ at the completion of this process, will be placed in the POOL and may be considered for future permanent and temporary vacancies as they become available.
Once an applicant from the POOL accepts a permanent position via this selection process, that applicant will be removed from the POOL. Applicants who accept a temporary vacancy will remain in the POOL and will continue to be considered for permanent opportunities as they arise.
Where an applicant in the POOL declines an opportunity (either permanent or temporary), that applicant may forfeit their right to be considered before other suitable applicants who were identified to be less competitive.
Integrity and criminal checks will be conducted if the recommended applicant for a position is not a current WA Police Force employee. Any relocation costs associated with appointment to these positions may be the responsibility of the successful applicants.
