Director Regional Development

Level 8 | Permanent Full Time

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) lead the sustainable development of Western Australia’s regions and agriculture, aquaculture, food and fisheries sectors. In everything we do, we take an approach to protect, grow and innovate WA’s economy, community and environment.

Reporting to the CEO of the South West Development Commission, the Director Regional Development will play a key leadership role in the delivering on the Commission’s vision and strategic objectives for the region growth and development of the region.  The position also plays a leadership role as in collaboration with the Commission’s Executive Management Team, in driving sector -wide strategies and initiatives to benefit the communities and businesses in the South West.

While based in the Bunbury Office, significant travel across the region, including the Commission’s offices in Collie and Manjimup is a requirement of the role.

About the opportunity

There is currently 1 position available for immediate filling. 

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to lead and drive the operations of our Regional Development Office. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering State Government programs and projects aimed at achieving crucial regional development outcomes. Your ability to cultivate effective consultative and collaborative relationships with key stakeholder from both the public and private sectors will be paramount in advancing regional investment and development initiatives.

As a key member of our team, you will also be responsible for leading and managing specified teams in the delivery of the organisation’s goals, objectives, and key performance indicators and core areas of strategic focus including Economic Development, Diversification and Innovation, Clean Energy and Decarbonisation, Aboriginal Prosperity and Participation, Regional Living, and Organisation.  This is an exceptional opportunity to make a difference to the quality of living for people in the region.

We are looking for individuals with:   

  • Have extensive experience in leading the research, development and execution of complex policies and projects in collaboration with multiple agencies and networks across government, industry and the community.
  • Demonstrate outstanding leadership, communication and stakeholder relationship building skills to be able to influence and inspire others to towards the achievement of impactful outcomes for the community, with a solutions-focussed orientation.
  • Demonstrate high level analytical, written and advanced digital skills to prepare quality and timely briefings and reports to inform key decision makers of government, the community and the Board.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development and lifelong learning to maintain the latest skills and expertise, including the emergence of new digital tools and technologies to continue to innovate and be creative in your approach to the work of the Commission.
