Are you a passionate and talented German - Languages teacher seeking an opportunity to grow in a creative department?
Byford Secondary College (SC) is seeking to appoint a dedicated, fluent, and enthusiastic German - Languages Teacher. We are seeking a teacher who is passionate about language learning and the opportunities it provides for young people.
Languages was first introduced at Byford SC in 2022, and in 2024 we will have our first group of Year 9’s studying German as an elective. We are anticipating growth into a Year 7-12 program. The 2024 German teaching load is 0.4FTE, which will increase yearly. For teachers who are interested in teaching an additional learning area, a higher FTE can be negotiated.
You would be working with a highly motivated and driven Languages team who are committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and academic achievement in a supportive environment where success is celebrated. We are looking for a collaborative team member that can work with the existing staff to plan, assess, differentiate, and moderate innovative language learning to engage all students at the College. Extracurricular opportunities are a significant part of the planning to engage students, where we have been working closely with language associations to promote the learning of a language and upskill our teachers.
Byford SC is a newer school in Perth’s southern suburbs. We have first class facilities to support high quality teaching and learning programs in our college. Located approximately 30 kilometres from the Perth CBD, our College caters for 1500 students in Years 7 through to 12 students. We offer a unique setting to many other metropolitan schools, with a blend of urban and rural students; this creates a vibrant mix of students and staff within the college community.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
