Legal Aid WA is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative person to join the Pilbara (South Hedland) Regional office, to be part of our Work and Development Permit Service (WDPS).
About the role
The Work and Development Permit Scheme is a partnership between the Department of Justice, Legal Aid WA, and the Aboriginal Legal Service of WA. The Legal Aid WA Work and Development Permit Service contributes to the Scheme by assisting people struggling to pay their court fines to connect with services (sponsors) that provide approved programs or activities under the Scheme. Clients attending these approved programs or activities may be eligible to credit their engagement hours against their outstanding court fines through a Work and Development Permit.
This position will assist staff in the South Hedland Regional office and elsewhere to achieve positive legal outcomes for Aboriginal people in the Pilbara, in respect of work and development permits, including the development of appropriate materials and programs to promote an understanding of work and development permits, and the approval process and requirements for sponsors. Don’t worry if you are not familiar with the Work and Development Permit Scheme, training and ongoing support from the Work and Development Scheme team will be provided.
About you
We are looking for someone with high level communication and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively. A fundamental part of this role is to develop and maintain key relationships with legal and non-legal agencies, organisations, communities and individuals across the Pilbara, to enhance and support the delivery of legal assistance services offered by Legal Aid WA.
