What will you be doing?
We are looking for either an Assistant Policy Analyst (Level 3) or a Policy Analyst (Level 4 or 5).
Working in Energy Policy is a chance to participate in the once in a generation transformation of the energy sector – we’re working to solve some of Australia’s most significant and urgent energy transition, climate change, and net zero emissions challenges.
Energy Policy advises government on a wide range of energy issues, including supporting renewable generation sources, new electricity networks, and consumer technologies like rooftop solar, batteries and electric vehicles. Our work relates to the power system in the Perth and South West, but also the large power system in the Pilbara and the small microgrids that serve rural towns throughout the State.
In your role, you’ll be supporting the Energy Policy leadership, the Minister for Energy and the government to make informed decisions about energy matters. This can include supporting engagement with the private sector and other government departments, writing briefing notes on policy issues, assisting the Minister to respond to queries from members of the public, or working in a team on policy projects.
Energy Policy’s work is complex and varied, and we value great minds that think differently. Every career here is different, and we want to provide you with a chance to make your own contribution.
Assistant Policy Analyst (Level 3) As an entry level role, you are expected to work under supervision to provide assistance with the governance for market advisory bodies.
Policy Analyst (Level 4) At this level you will be supporting Senior Policy Officers in the research and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data from multiple sources.
Policy Analyst (Level 5) At this level you will be proactively providing assistance with research and analyses of qualitative and quantitative data from multiple sources to contribute to the identification and investigation of emerging energy policy issues and problems, and the development and evaluation of potential solutions.
The selection panel will decide which role/level is appropriate for applicants, based on an assessment of your experience, skills and knowledge against the role requirements as outlined in the Job Description Forms attached.
What do we do?
Energy Policy oversees provision of innovative and quality advice and initiatives that shape the energy sector for the benefit of Western Australians now and into the future. The Group does this by supporting the Deputy Director General to deliver their functions and statutory responsibilities, as well as providing day to day oversight of the Energy Policy Group's policy development and reform work program.

It is centrally located with close access main bus and train routes making your commute easy and time efficient or you can bike to work and enjoy the end of trip facilities including secure bike parking and showers.
There is a variety of close food options including an on-site café. Take a walk through the city at lunchtime and enjoy all that Perth has to offer. The Department’s gym is located down the road at 1 Adelaide Terrace and membership is very affordable.
What are we looking for?
To be shortlisted for interview, you are required to submit the following two application documents.
- A maximum two (2) page covering letter using examples to tell us about your ability (level 3) or your experience (level 4 or 5) in collecting, analysing and preparing advice that is consistent with legislation, policy and guidelines.
- A detailed resume outlining your work history, education and professional development relevant to the advertised role, including the names of two (2) referees, with a current line manager preferred.
We encourage you to carefully consider the above point and tailor your covering letter to address them effectively. This will provide us with a comprehensive understanding of your qualifications, skills, and suitability for the position.
Please clearly indicate in the heading on your cover letter the level/s of the positions you wish to be considered for.
All requirements, capabilities and pre-employment checks listed on the attached JDF will be assessed as part of the selection process. Pre-employment checks will include a National Police check and a conflict of interest declaration and Proof of Aboriginality.
