Kensington Secondary School (SS) are seeking to establish a pool for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.
Education Support Teachers at Kensington SS deliver specialist learning programs to support students with a range of diagnosed disabilities. Suitable applicants will ideally adopt evidence-based practice and pedagogy to meet the needs of students with special needs, and actively contribute to the teaching and learning teams in advancing the educational outcomes. Suitable applicants should have the knowledge and ability to apply Western Australian Curriculum in their day to day teaching practices.
Suitable applicants will ideally have a high level of interpersonal skills to enable them to work collaboratively with staff members to deliver planned education programs and implement whole school approaches. Applicants should also be committed to personal growth and be willing to embrace peer coaching and mentoring to improve personal performance and capacity to ensure the delivery of effective teaching and learning programs.
Kensington SS occupies a unique position in Western Australian education as the only stand-alone secondary education support school specifically for young people with disability. Centrally located between the City of South Perth and the Town of Victoria Park, the school provides a range of educational programs for young people with a diagnosis of moderate to complex and multiple disabilities.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
